ANDREW’S FIGHT

RALLYING SUPPORT

IN CANCER BATTLE

July 18th – The Great Canadian Bar & Grill (St. Catharines)

(St. Catharines, July 11th, 2008) – Andrew Middleton will have a fundraiser held in his name on July 18th.  The enigmatic father of two and paramedic is fighting stage 3 brain cancer and will see THE GREAT CANADIAN BAR & GRILL, 44 James Street, St. Catharines, fill with supporters giving back to a man who is in a fight for his life.

On Friday, February 22nd, 2008, a 3cm tumour was found in Andrew Middleton’s brain. It was removed the following Sunday, but left in its wake a diagnosis of cancer almost two weeks later. Andrew’s courageous battle to conquer the disease immediately rallied the support of his wife, Lynn, and his two sons, Ian, 6, and Christian, 1. With his natural charisma and inspiring conviction naturally drawing people in, Andrew’s circle of support quickly grew as friends and family continue to donate their time and services to help where they can. From this supportive circle comes “ANDREW’S FIGHT”, a fundraiser to help Andrew Middleton and his family as they defeat the financial challenges they face.

ANDREW’S FIGHT will feature live music by bands with a direct connection to Andrew, including ANDREW’S FIGHT committee members "TROY WESTERN" and the band "BOOM", as well as Temporary Membership and Joe Stadium & The Meat Whistles, silent auctions, raffles, door prizes, and a formal head-shaving ceremony. This head-shaving ceremony will highlight the evening as the climax of pledges gathered by four of ANDREW’S FIGHT committee members in a show of solidarity and support for Andrew.  Bracelets will be sold at the event with the words “TARTAN MAFIA A.M.” stamped into them, stemming from the name of a private group created by Andrew on Facebook where he and his wife, Lynn, post their personal experiences in a journal style.  The Canadian Cancer Society has been invited to set up an information booth at the event.  A formal presentation will be made to Andrew and his family at midnight announcing the total funds raised through ANDREW’S FIGHT.  The goal is to raise $5000 overall.

The fundraiser has already garnered support from Niagara councillor Debbie Zimmerman, Niagara-On-The-Lake Lord Mayor Gary Burroughs, Andrew’s fellow paramedics with the Niagara Emergency Medical Services (NEMS), Y108 FM in Hamilton, Niagara This Week, as well as regional wineries, restaurants, and much more.  On July 17th at around 8:40 a.m., Troy Western of the ANDREW’S FIGHT committee will be discussing the fundraiser on 105.1 FM “The River” in Niagara Falls.  Monetary and raffle donations have been made from some of Andrew’s former high school teachers, as well as numerous regional businesses and individuals who want to support the cause.

ANDREW’S FIGHT will take place on Friday, July 18th, 2008 at The Great Canadian Bar & Grill in St. Catharines, ON (44 James Street) from 7:30pm to 1:00am. Tickets are $10.
